Tanya Lee Schwied - Tanya is thrilled to be back teaching at South Coast Freestyle. Her dance career began at a very young age where she would compete and perform first with Saddleback Dance Center and then went on to be the youngest member or the professional dance company, Jazz Dance America. All the while she was at Dana Hills High School leading her Varsity Song Team as Captain, and performing with Paragon and Freestyle, under the fabulous direction of the one and only Miss Anne Davila. She also starred in her high school plays, Sweet Charity and West Side Story. All of her hard work paid off when she was accepted and graduated from the TISCH School of the Arts at NYU, where she majored in Musical Theatre. She lived and worked all over the East Coast where she starred in several musicals and plays. Now she's living and working in Los Angeles acting, writing, doing voiceover work, sketch comedy, and musical theatre. But teaching dance is her one true passion and she can't wait to get back in the studio!!!!!!!
Contemporary Jazz- Tanya is back and bringing her signature "star quality" class with her. In this class there will be a rigorous warm-up, and very thorough across the floor exercises where she will critique and expect nothing but %110 from each and every girl. There will be a piece taught in the last half of class where the girls will take down their hair, turn off the lights and let loose!!! The number one thing that you must do in this class is have fun and let your guard down. Tanya is no stranger to pulling the best out of each of her girls and she will work relentlessly to see that it's done well and done right!
Ballet Technique-This class is geared toward students with little or no ballet training and will whip any girl into shape! We will focus on classical technique, traditional barre work, center work and combinations, all of which will help you grow into a seasoned performer. This is going to be an intense class where we will concentrate strictly on overall body alignment and awareness with emphasis on proper usage of feet and legs and execution of turnout. Carriage and usage of upper torso and arms are also stressed.
Turns and Turns- A quick warm-up followed by an across the floor that will send any girl into any room feeling good about their technique and performance quality. We will focus on the turns, leaps, and tricks that are essential for any dancer in this cutting edge era. You will leave this class with the right tools for any audition, try-out, competition, and performance. Come prepared and ready to work!
