South Coast Freestyle All-Star dance program can now add another coast to their list of conquests. After spending three months this competition season dominating West coast opponents, Owner and Coach Lonna Albert took 45 dancers and 9 routines to Orlando, Florida for the National Dance Alliance Competition at Universal Studios. To assist Albert in this challenging event, Albert brought her two best coaches and choreographers Anne Davila and Hayley Schumaker. This was SCF’s ninth year defending their status as National Champs at NDA. After having seven teams advance to finals, SCF brought home four National Titles sweeping the Variety divisions in the Youth, Junior and Senior age brackets.
Trophies, banners, and the coveted “NDA Jackets” were enough accolades to make the trip a positive one, but the two “Innovative Choreography” awards presented to both Albert and Davila for their artistic creativity validated that South Coast Freestyle is a program making waves in the dance world that will not soon fade. Lonna Albert is proud of her dancers, her coaches, and all the parents of her students who have come together under her “one big family” concept, making the unification of over 100 families in this community the greatest accomplishment of her program- with the steady wins being icing on the cake. As the year comes to an end in late April, the entire coaching staff is thrilled with the overall performance each team has exhibited and is already excited to begin their preparations for the upcoming new competition season.
South Coast Freestyle’s main “auditions” date is May 10th, 2008 although it should be noted that the program never turns away a student who has the desire to learn how to dance. No matter the student’s grade level, no matter the city they reside, no matter the level of dance experience- SCF’s motto forever remains “We have a team for you.” This amazing program has proven themselves on every turf they’ve graced, from the West coast of California to the East coast of Florida battling competitors from everywhere in between on the dance floor for national show downs. Now come April, as they step into the newly developing world of International competitive dance, it will be fascinating to see which global coasts they will be able to add to their lists of conquests. The title South Coast may indicate where this group is from, but it in no way defines how far they will go.
